Professional Experience
With a 3.6 cumulative GPA, a political science minor, four-year recipient of the Curators Scholarship and a member of the Dean's Honor Roll all semesters to date, I take my studies very seriously. Along with my studies, I have worked outside the field of journalism to prepare myself for a future in law. I shadowed Greene County Circuit Court Judge Mark Powell in the summer of 2011 to better understand the inner-working of the Missouri legal system. Also, I attained an internship in the 96th Missouri General Assembly with State Representative Shelley Keeney of the 156th District in the Spring of 2011.
At the capital in Jefferson City, I learned the practical skills necessary to consider a future in politics as well as gained a better understanding of how laws are created in our state. I was also a member of mock legislative session, put on by fellow interns and I, as we practiced passing bills, debating and resolving current issues on the floor of the House.

Mock Trial
As an undergraduate, I participated on the school's mock trial team from sophomore year to present. In mock trial, we learned the basic legal principles behind what trial law consists of and implemented those principles in replica cases performed in front of real trial attorneys, teachers and judges. The University of Missouri has won back-to-back regional championships, including our school's first ever undefeated record in 2009. From there, we have competed in the national championship, first in St. Louis then in Memphis. Individually, I have received an All-Regional selection from the American Mock Trial Association and have been placed on the All-Tournament team at the Arch Invitational.
